Associate Financial Planner

OLIO Financial Planning was founded with a rebellious and stubborn objective: to reinvent the industry by providing financial planning to all using a revolutionary fee structure. We don’t care how much clients have, but rather, what they aspire to do with it. Our preference is long-lasting relationships that are mutually-rewarding. Fundamentally, we believe the client experience should look and feel completely different than it does today – and that’s just what we’ve set out to do.

We're a unique group passionately pursuing the meaning of our clients’ money. Turning obstacles into opportunities. We’re intrigued by new challenges and unknowns. We’re creative, committed, and perhaps different. We ask lots of questions and feel collaboration is the glue that holds it all together.

What we do

We believe financial planning is more than the sum of its parts and planning can only be done well by offering comprehensive advice across all six areas of financial planning. We aim to focus on all of them, and we make sure clients understand their money by prioritizing their ongoing education.

We love the details and nuances of planning. We dive deep into the technical pieces, whether it’s the language in an estate document, a new stock agreement, or the latest change to the tax code.

We’re proud to support clients at every stage of life - from individuals starting their financial journey to growing families, seasoned professionals, and retirees enjoying the fruits of their hard work. We believe finances should support and enhance clients’ lives – helping them to pursue what they care about.

We believe clients are best served when we put multiple heads together, so you’ll collaborate with other advisors on the team to brainstorm, share insights, and deliver the highest standard of advice. We’re a group of people prepared to roll up our sleeves to challenge the status quo and are dedicated to delivering an exceptional client experience.

What we need

We’re seeking a passionate, detail-oriented, and hardworking person to be our next Associate Financial Planner. Ideally, you are seasoned and already comfortable in this role.

This role serves as a key support advisor on both new and existing client relationships—anticipating needs, coordinating follow-up, and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks. Over time, the position can evolve into a Lead Planner role, though there’s also room to continue growing as an experienced Associate if that’s where you thrive.

The ideal candidate must have an upbeat mentality and be capable of managing the daily needs of a growing financial planning practice.  Your ability to take ownership of your work and proactively add value will make you an ideal candidate for the position. We utilize a lot of technology, so it’s best if you enjoy the efficiencies it brings!

We have two office locations, one on the outskirts of Washington, DC in Tysons Corner, VA, and the other in the mountains of southwest Virginia in Blacksburg. We also work remotely.

Our preference is for this position to be in person in our Blacksburg, VA office, but we’re open to considering a remote arrangement for the right candidate. Preference will be given to those located in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Pennsylvania, where we already have team members. This position will be expected to travel to Blacksburg at least quarterly or as needed to meet with clients and connect in person.

  • As desired, review client investment portfolios.

  • Complete other miscellaneous financial planning projects and research.

  • Evaluate ways to improve and streamline client interaction and financial plan delivery.

  • Work within our software package (WealthBox, Tamarac, Microsoft Office Suite, Holistiplan, and RightCapital).
